  • Anticholinergics, bronchodilator
Action
 
  • It causes bronchodilation and dries respiratory tract secretions. It acts by blocking acetylcholine receptors, thus inhibiting parasympathetic stimulation.
Indications
 
  • For the management of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) as an adjunct to Salbutamol.
Contraindications
 
  • Hypersensitivity
  • Sensitivity to peanuts and/or soy products
  • Pediatric patients < 1 year old
Precaution
  • Caution with cardiovascular disease and hypertension
Side effects
  • Headache
  • Palpitation
  • Anxiety
  • Dizziness
  • Blurred vision
Administration
Rout: Neb Onset: <15 minutes Peak effect: 1-2 hours Duration: 3-6 hours
Adult Dose:
  • 500mcg diluted in 2.5 ml NS via nebulizer every 20 mins up to 3 doses
Pediatric Dose:
  • 250-500 mcg diluted in 2.5 ml saline via nebulizer every 20 mins up to 3 doses
