Disinfection of Laryngoscope Blades

OBJECTIES:
  • Identify used equipment.
  • Identify the process of proper disinfection.
  • Recognize the importance of disinfection.
INDICATION

For cleaning and disinfection of laryngoscope blades, ET tube stylets and /or Magill forceps.

PROCEDURES
  • Undertake universal precautions
  • Thoroughly clean equipment with soap and water.
  • Rinse with cold water.
  • Place in 2 % glutaraldehyde/ Precept solution and allow to soak for 20 minutes.
  • Rinse with cold water.
  • Dry and store for reuse.
PRECAUTION:

Do not immerse or clean blades in bleach, betadine or peroxide solutions. Doing so will severely damage equipment.
