ENDOTRACHEAL DRUG ADMINISTRATION
OBJECTIVES
- Identify patient with difficult IV access.
- Identify patient who will benefit from ET drug administration.
- Identify medications and their doses, which can be given by ETT.
- Use proper technique for administration of drugs through ETT.
INDICATION OF PROTOCOL
- Adult or pediatric patient in an emergency situation with difficult IV access who may benefit from
administration of certain drugs through ETT. The drugs are:
- Narcan 5.0mg.
- Atropine 2-2.5 mg.
- Epinephrine 2.5 mg.
- Lidocaine 250 mg.
- ETT drug dose is 2-2.5 times the IV dose.

PROCEDURE
- Identify the medication to be given by name and dosage.
- Prepare the medication.
- Withhold chest compression during drug administration.
- Remove the bag valve device.
- Drug should be injected by catheter below the end of ETT.
- Several insufflations should be given to patient to aerosolize the drug and improve absorption.
- Reconnect the bag valve device and ventilate the patient.
- Monitor the patient.
