Indications
 
  • Dehydration
  • Hypovolemic Shock
  • Burns
Contraindications
 
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Renal failure
  • Hypertension
  • Suspected Hyperkalemia
Precaution
  • Monitor for circulatory overload and reaction (itching, swelling, fever, etc.)
Side effects
  • Rare allergic reaction
  • Fluid overload
Administration
Rout: IV/IO Onset: Rapid Peak effect: N/A Duration: Short Term therapy
Adult Dose:
Hypovolemic shock & dehydration:
  • 500 ml IV bolus. Repeat dose and or titrate as needed to target hemodynamic stability.
Septic shock:
  • 500 mL/kg IV bolus, repeat to achieve target hemodynamic stability.
Cardiogenic shock:
  • 250 mL IV bolus in patients without evidence of fluid overload. Repeat dose and/or titrate as needed to target hemodynamic stability.
Pediatric Dose:
Shock & dehydration:
  • 20 ml/kg IV bolus over 5 to 10 minute repeat to achieve target hemodynamic stability
