Pain Management (Adult)

EMT STANDING ORDERS:
  • Routine patient Care.
  • Have the patient rate his/her pain from 0 to 10. Document value each time pain is assessed.
  • Non-pharmacological pain control: Use ample padding when splinting musculoskeletal injuries; consider the application of a cold pack for 30 minutes.
  • For moderate to severe pain, Call for AEMT/Paramedic intercept & assist them in patient care.
AEMT/PARAMEDIC STANDING ORDERS
  • Routine patient Care.
  • Administer Morphine 2-5 mg slow IV/IO/IM, repeat every 10 minutes, maximum dose 10 mg or fentanyle 50-100 mcg.,
  • Place the patient in comfortable position.
  • Stabilize the traumatized extremity as per protocol.
  • Reassess the patient for pain relief.
  • Transfer to designated health care facility.
